The ATTEN ST-8800D is a compact 800 W hot air rework station covering 100 – 500 °C with 30 – 120 l/min of air. A brushless vortex fan sets the air rotating as it leaves the nozzle, so heat spreads across a package instead of concentrating in the middle of it — which is what you want when the part you are lifting is larger than the bore.
What separates it from cheaper stations is that it diagnoses itself. A failed temperature sensor shows as S-E and a failed heater core as H-E, so a fault points at a part to order rather than leaving you with a station that simply will not heat. A touch sensor in the gun holder sleeps the unit the moment you rack the gun, and after power-off the fan keeps running until the element is cool.
It suits board-level repair, SMD rework, shrink-tubing and general service work. Four nozzles, the gun and its holder are in the box.
What it does
Brushless vortex fan
The air leaves the nozzle rotating rather than as a straight column, so it spreads over the package instead of drilling a hot spot into the middle of it.
Auto-sleep on the stand
A touch sensor in the gun holder puts the station to sleep the moment you rack the gun. No timer to set and nothing left blowing at 400 °C.
It names the fault, not just the fact
Most stations tell you something is wrong. This one tells you what: S-E is the temperature sensor, H-E is the heater core. That is a part to order rather than a diagnosis to work out.
Independent cold-air mode
Full air flow with the heater off — for cooling a joint quickly, or for work where you want the flow without the heat.
Automatic cool-down
After power-off the fan keeps running at high volume until the element is cool, which is what makes a heating core last.
Three shortcut sets
Three temperature and air-flow presets, each set and stored independently, on the three keys under the display.
Password and key lock
Settings can be locked behind a password — worth having on a shared bench or in a training room.
±50 °C compensation
Trim the reading against a thermocouple so the number on the screen matches the air at the nozzle.
The hot air half of the ST-8802
The ST-8800D and the ST-8802 share the same hot air section, feature for feature. The ST-8802 adds a 65 W soldering iron on the same chassis. If your bench already has a soldering station, the ST-8800D is the sensible half to buy.
Below it, the AT858D+ is cheaper but uses a fan pump rather than a vortex fan, and while it indicates a fault it does not name one. Above it, the ST-862D brings 1000 W, a pluggable heater you can change in seconds and a choice of straight or spiral air.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the ST-8800D and the ST-8802?
The soldering iron. Both use the same 800 W hot air section — 100 – 500 °C, ±35 °C, up to 120 l/min, the same brushless vortex fan, four nozzles, cold-air mode, three shortcut sets and the password lock. The ST-8802 adds a 65 W SP-65 soldering iron (80 – 480 °C, ±2 °C) on the same chassis. If you already have a soldering station, this is the one to buy.
What do S-E and H-E mean on the display?
They are fault codes, and they are one of the better reasons to choose this station. S-E means the temperature sensor has gone open circuit. H-E means the heater core has failed. Both are replaceable parts rather than a reason to replace the station — contact us with the code and we will identify the part.
Which nozzles does it take?
Four nozzles are supplied with it. ATTEN does not publish a nozzle-series list for this gun, and we would rather not guess: send us a photo of the end of the barrel and we will match it before you order. Our full hot air nozzle range lists every bore and shape we stock.
Is 800 W enough?
For almost all surface-mount rework, yes — what limits you is usually air volume and nozzle choice rather than raw wattage. Where the extra power earns its keep is on large ground planes and shield cans, and there the ST-862D at 1000 W is the better tool.
What does the vortex fan actually change?
A plain fan pushes a straight column of air down the bore. A vortex fan sets the air rotating, so it spreads across a wider area and reaches the sides of a package as well as the top. In practice it means a more even heat over a footprint and less risk of scorching the middle of a part while the corners are still cold.
What warranty applies?
Two years on the station, handled here in the Netherlands. Nozzles and the heating core are wear parts and sit outside it — we keep replacements as spare parts.
