The GT stations read the tool you plug in and load its settings by themselves — an iron, hot tweezers or a vacuum desoldering gun, on the same base. The heater and the sensor sit inside the tip cartridge, so temperature is measured where the joint is and recovery takes about a second.

What “intelligent” means here

The station does the setting up

On an ordinary station you set a temperature and hope the tip is somewhere near it. On a GT, the tool announces itself and the station configures around it.

It reads which tool is attached and loads that tool's parameters automatically. No menu, no profile to select.

It works to that tool's settings

Temperature, limits and presets follow the tool, so swapping between them mid-job costs nothing.

The sensor is at the joint

Heater, sensor and tip are one cartridge, with the sensor immediately behind the working face. The station therefore controls the temperature that matters — not the temperature of an element sitting a centimetre back — which is why a GT recovers in about a second under load.

Buy the base once

Because the tools are interchangeable, the base station is a one-off purchase and the capability grows with the handles you add. A GT-6150 that starts as a soldering station becomes a desoldering station for the price of a gun.

Which tool fits which station

The GT-8102 is the exception in this category: it is a hot air rework station, not a cartridge soldering station, and it shares none of the handles.

The odd one out

GT-8102

ATTEN sells it under the GT name and the shop lists it as a soldering station, but its own documentation is unambiguous: the GT-8102 is a 1000 W hot air rework station with a vacuum pick-up pen. It takes no GT-Y cartridges and shares no handles with the stations above.

On its own terms it is a capable machine — a brushless fan pushing up to 120 l/min, PID temperature control, timed or manual heating, three shortcut air and temperature sets, and a pluggable heater and handle you can swap in seconds.

A cartridge carries its own heater, so it costs more than a loose tip — and it is the reason the station performs the way it does.

What does “intelligent” actually mean on these stations?

Two concrete things. First, the heater and sensor are inside the tip cartridge, immediately behind the working face — so the station measures the temperature where the joint is, not somewhere back in the handle, and recovers in about a second. Second, the station identifies the tool you plug in and loads its parameters by itself. Together those make one base station behave like three or four dedicated ones.

Can I use one station with several tools?

That is the point of the range. A GT-6150 or GT-5150 drives one tool at a time but accepts any of them — buy the base once and add handles as the work demands. A GT-6200 has two channels that run simultaneously, so an iron and hot tweezers can both be live.

What is the difference between the GT-6150 and the GT-6200?

Channels. The GT-6150 is a single 150 W channel; the GT-6200 has two channels of 150 W each, 200 W total, running at the same time. The GT-6200 also arrives with the GT-Y130 iron and the GT-N100 tweezers in the box, where the GT-6150 is the base station on its own.

Which cartridges and tips do they take?

By tool, not by station. The GT-Y050 and GT-Y130 irons take GT-Y cartridges; the GT-N100 tweezers take T9100 pairs; the GT-X150 gun takes T151 nozzles. The GT-8102 is hot air and takes A-16 nozzles instead.

Why is the GT-8102 in this category?

Because ATTEN sells it under the GT name, but it is a different kind of instrument: a 1000 W hot air rework station with a vacuum pick-up pen, not a cartridge soldering station. It does not take GT-Y handles or cartridges. If you want hot air, compare it against the rest of the rework range rather than against the GT-6150.

Is a cartridge station worth it over a loose-tip one?

If you solder occasionally, no — a ST station at a third of the price does the job and its tips cost a few euro. If you solder all day, a GT pays for itself in recovery time and in not stopping to re-tune the station every time the work changes.
